Nicolas COLIBERT (Paris 1750 - London 1806) "Le culte des Nègres" Original etching and punctuated by a subject by Pierre Thomas Victor Fréret (see the content of the Common-place.org website in this regard) published in Paris by the publisher Depeuille at rue des Mathurins in 1795 to celebrate the first abolition of slavery obtained with the decree of 4 February 1794. Beautiful copy printed with a refined color ink on laid paper apparently without watermark, trimmed just to the imprint of the slab that appears only in a few points, with various burnishing, traces of offsetting and various other small defects mainly at the edges but overall, given the high rarity, in good general condition. An example of this subject printed in black is present in the collections of the Archives Départementals de La Reunion, designed by Iconothèque Historique de l'Océan Indien. Bibliography: Milesi "Dictionary of Engravers" Bergamo 1989 pag.111. Portalis - Beraldi "Les Graveurs du XVIII siecle" Paris 1880 vol.1 p. 577. http://www.common-place-archives.org/vol-14/no-01/lessons/#.V7iZsDUrjoR Measurements in mm: 435ca x 505ca the sheet
